Louder Together

Kala Chng

KALA CHNG is a half-Chinese British Pop music artist from Knowle West, Bristol, UK. As a songwriter, singer and producer, she creates an original blend of Pop music with Chinese sounds and urban influences (influenced by Bristol bass, grime and dubstep beats, classical Chinese instruments, catchy pop lines, and R&B).

Kala is a long-standing and active member of Bmin. As an artist, she is exceptional, focused and a prolific songwriter. She has built her unique image with powerful branding and a clear niche for herself in terms of genre. New artists can learn a great deal from Kala Chng – and (knowing her as we do) she is very likely to be willing to help.

Referred to as reminiscent of ‘Kate Bush vibes’ and ‘like a Chinese Lady Gaga’, she’s also one of Bristol’s voted Happiness Champions, a named Culture Ambassador, was on the Bristol Cool List 2021 and known in the city for her creative, community and cultural work.

Since 2013 she’s released 4 EPs and 5 albums. Her singles have featured on stations across the globe, and her radio play to date includes BBC Radio ( 1Xtra, 6, 5, Introducing in the West, Bristol and more).

Comments about Bmin

I started going to BMIN over 10 years ago when I was starting in music. It became a valuable space for me, both to meet fellow musicians, and feel less alone (as a solo artist) and also to learn about the industry through the talks and invites to related events, and to network and meet people such as promoters and event organisers and radio DJs who went on to play my music, and book me for events and become valuable friends and colleagues. I also found it a great way to tap into what was going on in the scene and enjoy the music scene as a punter and not just as a performing music artist. I don’t know where I’d be without it!
