Can you help with a new music project?
Bristol-based contemporary Oud player and composer Abdelhay El Haddad has reached out to Bmin. He is seeking guidance and support of this exciting project. Funding is crucial – but can come in a variety of forms so your ideas/suggestions or recommendations of who to talk to would be invaluable.
Why it matters
The project expands the presence of innovative Arab music within the UK’s contemporary scene, offering:
• A distinctive artistic voice within contemporary composition
• Fresh creative perspectives on the Maqam in global contexts
• A cultural contribution that invites audiences to rediscover their own emotional landscapes through sound
It tells a deeply personal musical and human journey — where every phrase carries the story of an artist shaped by heritage, learning, resilience, and the search for authentic expression.
Through the Oud, this work shares lived experience in a form that listeners can feel, relate to, and find themselves inside — turning personal memory into collective emotion.
A glimpse of the sonic world
Here is a fabulous and beautifully recorded sample on YouTube of a recent composition showing the intended artistic direction.
