New track from regular Bmin Member Ken Lintern
Veteran Musician Ken Lintern Revisits His Most Successful Song With New Symphonic Rock Single “The Ghost Rocks”
Weston-super-Mare songwriter, producer and lifelong professional musician Ken Lintern is set to release his powerful new single, The Ghost Rocks, a symphonic rock reimagining of one of the most successful songs from a musical career spanning almost six decades.
Approaching his 76th birthday, Lintern continues to write, record and release new music with the same enthusiasm that first launched his professional career in the late 1960s.
His musical journey began at an unusually early age, studying piano from the age of five, adding cornet and trumpet at eight and violin at nine. Early experience with brass bands and orchestras instilled a lifelong love of orchestral arrangements, powerful horn sections and sweeping strings, influences that remain central to his music today.
By the time he left school, Lintern was performing regularly with local bands and soon progressed to professional work, supporting many successful chart acts of the 1960s before becoming a full-time bandleader in 1970. The following years saw extensive touring throughout the UK, a nine-month tour of the Middle East, television appearances on New Faces and ITV, and the release of the album KLB: First Journey.
His career later expanded into artist management, concert promotion and the wider music industry. While working with a Bristol concert promoter, Lintern helped run the Rainbow Rock Club, where one of the emerging acts appearing on the bill was a young Irish band called U2.
He later established his own management company, guiding artists including Vice Squad, Shiva and Ron E Was Another 1 to recording contracts.
After a successful period with Arbiter Musical Instruments, representing major brands including Fender Guitars, Lintern eventually returned full-time to performing, songwriting and recording, building a home studio and later acquiring the premises that became 13 Sound Studios in 2013.
Working alongside his son Charlie Lintern, who now serves as the studio’s house engineer, Ken has continued to develop both his own music and projects for other artists.
One of those projects would prove especially significant.
Following the release of his first solo album, All I Have To Offer, Lintern was commissioned to write a collection of original songs inspired by Mediterranean cruise destinations. Each song represented a different port of call.
For Naples, he discovered an intriguing piece of local folklore surrounding legendary tenor Enrico Caruso. Stories claimed that long after Caruso’s death, his voice could still be heard carried on the winds across the Bay of Naples.
Inspired by the tale, Lintern wrote The Ghost of Napoli.
The song became the most successful composition of his career, receiving substantial airplay on BBC Radio Wales and establishing itself as a favourite among listeners.
Now, more than a decade later, the song has been reborn.
Retitled The Ghost Rocks, the new version transforms the original composition into an ambitious symphonic rock production featuring vocalist Dan Droid, guitarist Pete Sharp and drummer Steve Burge, with production support and bass guitar from Charlie Lintern.
The recording also celebrates collaboration within the music community, bringing together experienced performers united by a shared passion for creating powerful and expressive music.
For Lintern, the release represents both a look back and a look forward.
“I’ve spent virtually my entire life in music, whether performing, writing, producing, managing artists or running studios. The Ghost Rocks brings together many of the influences I’ve loved since childhood, from orchestral music to rock, and gives new life to a song that has always meant a great deal to me.”
Nearly sixty years after beginning his professional journey, Ken Lintern remains what he has always been: a working musician, songwriter and creator, still driven by the excitement of making new music.
